3 Homemade Foot Bath Recipes for Self Care

Nothing helps you feel better about a long, stressed day, then a nice foot bath.

Have you ever heard of reflexology?

This is a form of massage that is based on the theory from Traditional Chinese Medicine, which shows that the feet contain acupressure points that correspond to every system of the body. By working on the feet, you can bring detoxification and healing to the entire body.

So by soaking just your feet in warm to hot water for 15-20 minutes, you can bring a feeling of deep relaxation to the entire body. This makes a foot bath the perfect self care activity.

The first thing you will need is a foot bath (3/4ths full of water) to put these yummy ingredients in. Then, fill the bath up with warm to hot water depending on your individual tolerance. For me, the hotter the better.

You want to soak your feet for about 20-30 minutes to really feel the relief from the foot bath soak.

Here are a few recipes to try in your foot bath:

Honey and Milk Foot Bath Recipe
This combination relieves achy feet and leaves feet feeling super soft.

  • 1 cup of milk (try canned coconut milk)
  • 2 TB of honey

Apple Cider Vinegar and Epson Salt Foot Bath Recipe
This is great for sore feet, especially caused from standing, jogging, or running on your feet. It also is a great way to detox the body. I use this recipe whenever I feel a cold coming on, and it dismisses the symptoms quickly.

  • 1 cup of ACV
  • 1 cup of epson salt

Herbal Oil Foot Bath Recipe
This is great for softening the feet and relieving emotional stress.

  • 1/4 cup of olive oil or coconut oil
  • 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. Here are a few suggestions:- lavender and/or chamomile – calming
bergamot and/or sweet orange – uplifting
    – clary sage and/or sandalwood – centering
    – eucalyptus and/or peppermint – invigorating
    – ginger – warming
    – jasmine – sensual

Make sure you use high quality, food grade essential oils. Many essential oils are so diluted, the beneficial properties are minimal.
