Spending three weeks in Costa Rica, I learned a lot. It’s so much fun to immerse yourself into another culture and learn as you go. While in Costa Rica, I learned a few little facts that helped me navigate the country easier. Here they are.
3 Little Facts about Costa Rica
1. Soda means little restaurant. These are the places where the locals eat. When I first got to Costa Rica and saw these signs everywhere, I just thought Costa Ricans really liked soda! The prices are a lot cheaper than the restaurants marketed to tourists. The food is more authentic too. We had lots of great food in Costa Rica and enjoyed our authentic experiences. You must try a consada, the popular local dish, at least once while you’re here. It’s a simple meal but very authentically Costa Rican.
2. There are no street signs. Higher a driver or get the GPS if you get a rental car. Many times, we drove past a street several times before realizing we needed to turn down it. One, because it wasn’t paved so we looked right past it. Two, because there were no signs or street signs indicating that was the way to go.
3. They love children. Don’t be afraid to take your kids to this beautiful paradise with you. Men and women stopped us on the street to talk to Skye. We even got $50 off one of our hotel rooms because of Skye. Everyone is super accommodating. At the airport, we were rushed to the front of all of the lines because we had a child with us. It was an amazing experience to be praised and honored as parents everywhere we went in Costa Rica.
