I was recently having a conversation with my girlfriends about cheating. Is it ok to cheat? What does cheating mean? Why do people cheat?
While most of my girlfriends have traditional views on cheating, my views differ. I don’t see cheating as a bad thing that we should avoid at all costs. I do understand that it’s hurtful, but the pain it causes usually has the potential to lead us to greater truths about ourselves.
I admitted that I had both been a cheater and been cheated on in my younger relationships. While both situations were messy at the time, they both ended up being some the best experiences of my life.
I learned so much about myself. Cheating was only symptom. It was not the root problem. Once the cheating was revealed, it caused me to do some serious soul searching about who I was and what I wanted in life. The situations that bring us to the greatest wisdom about ourselves are never easy. However in retrospect, pain gives us the biggest opportunity to change.
So try not to spend too much time regretting your past experiences. Try not to spend so much time focusing on what’s right or wrong. Life is more complicated than that. Allow yourself to fully feel your personal experiences without judgement and allow your lessons to reveal themselves to you.
