I made a special trip to my local Farmer’s Market and picked up some fruits and veggies to juice for my 7 Day Detox.
I’ve been using Arden’s Garden juices so far because I knew I would not have the time to juice in the beginning of the week. But now, I’m so excited to make my own juices. The main reason is because I can add the fruits and veggies that I know my body needs. Another reason is I can tailor the taste to suit my desires. So of course I got plenty of beets and ginger, but I also got some watercress to add some deeper cleansing power to my juices.
Watercress is an excellent detoxifier It’s great for the skin and it has anti-cancer properties.
For this juice, I cut up:
- 1/4 of a whole pineapple
- 3 carrots
- 1 bunch of watercress
- 1 beet
- about 1 inch of ginger
- 2 apples
The key to making a great tasting juice that is also good for you is to choose some greens and add apple and pineapple. After that, you can add whatever fruits or veggies your prefer.
I love adding pineapple to my green juices because it really sweetens it up. I also bought some chard to juice, but I totally forgot about it. So I’ll be throwing it in the next batch of juice I make with the same ingredients from above.
After I chopped everything up, I started feeding it to my juicer, one at a time. I always start with the leafy greens and herbs and then add the more solid fruits and veggies.
I currently have a Breville juicer. This is a great juicer for the price (usually about $99). However, I really want a slow masticating juicer. These juicers get more juice out of each fruit or veggie and don’t produce nearly as much pulp. They extract a lot more nutrients too. However, they’re pretty expensive so it’s an investment I will make a little later down the line. The two slow masticating juicers I like are Hurom and Omega.
I squeezed 1/2 of one lemon into the juice once I was finished juicing. I never add the lemon to the juicer because I’d have to peel it. Adding the lemon with the peel completely ruins the juice for me. It makes the juice bitter and kinda gross. So I’ve learned to just squeeze some lemon in at the end.
I also like to drink my juice with a straw. No reason — just because.
The juice was delicious!! The pineapple and ginger were the most dominant taste. I loved it! It was a little to spicy for everyone else in the house so if I were making it for the entire family I would have laid off the ginger some. However…this juice was just for me because this is all I’m having during my 7 Day Detox so I liked the fact that everyone stayed away from the juice. hahahaha. All a part of my plan.
You do not have to do a fast to benefit from fresh juice. You can juice anytime you want some extra nutrition.
I know a lot of people who tooting the benefits of blending over juicing. I have a Blentec super blender, which is a commercial grade blender and I love it! I make green smoothies in it along with lots of other things. However, I still think there’s a time and place for juicing.
Smoothies are great for everyday nutrition. But juices are great for cleansing. I have not found anything that comes close to detoxing the body like fresh, organic fruit and vegetable juices. They work fast and cleanse deep. I juice when I need a deep detox or to heal the body from a disease or ailment.
