The other day, I went to visit my cousin in the hospital. She just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl! As I was holding this new, precious life, I thought, “Where did the time go?”
I could barely remember my own Skye being this tiny. Skye is only 18 months, but it seemed like forever ago when I gave birth to a tiny, little baby and held her in my arms.
So I don’t want to promote the cliche that life is short. I believe life is long enough for every singe human being to do what they came here to do. But I do believe life happens fast. Time keeps moving and evolving with or without us. It’s the nature of progress. Just look at nature itself. It keeps going no matter what. Even when it storms or hails. There may be a hurricane or tsunami. A snow storm. A war. The seasons continue to change. The cycle of life continues. It stops for nothing.
The key for us is to enjoy every moment. It’s easy to enjoy the happy moments, but we must enjoy the hard ones too. When we’re broke or broken. When we’re confused or depressed. When we’re lonely. Even when we’re dying.
There are many cultures who dance at weddings and funerals. Each cycle is cause for celebration. Let’s stop judging our lives and determining if it’s ok to be happy. Before we feel, we subconsciously ask, “have I earned it?”
“In thy presence is fulness of joy.” Psalm 16:11
Happiness and joy are not something we must earn or work hard for. They are our natural birth right.
“It doesn’t cost a thing to smile. You don’t have to pay to laugh. You better thank God for that.” India Aria
So no matter where you are in life right now, realize you are in fact alive. Life goes on whether you wake up to it or not. So wake up to it. Infuse as much joy into each moment as possible. Because in a second that moment is gone and you can never get it back. We never regret that we didn’t spend enough time hating our lives in the past. But we do regret missing the moments that mattered most. Don’t miss the moments of your life. For each moment is your life.
