Some people misunderstand mantra and believe they are prayers to multiple Gods. This is not true. Mantras are meditations that allow us to become more aware of certain attributes of God within our own lives.
With this Ganesha prayer, we are not asking God to remove our obstacles, we’re opening ourselves up to the all powerful ability of God to remove our obstacles. It is only us who are blocked, and never God’s power. Ganesha is just a personified attribute of God.
When you chant a mantra, it’s best to have mala beads so you can easily keep track of how many times you chant. Also, chanting the mantra for 108 repetitions is recommended.
Try this form of meditation out for 40 days. It may seems strange at first if you’ve never done it, but the effects are well worth any initial discomfort.
