Today, I took my first prenatal yoga class. It was amazing. I discovered the studio at the Petworth Farmer’s Market. I received a flyer and met one of the yoga teachers. Once I realized this studio was close enough to walk to, I was sold. It was about a 7 minute walk for me. This is why I absolutely love living in Washington, D.C. right now. The name of the yoga studio is Golden Heart Yoga.
The yoga class really stretched the areas I felt I needed to open up. I didn’t realize how tensed I was until I was balanced. There was so much stress and tension I needed to let go of.
I’m so surprised I didn’t go to prenatal yoga class with my first pregnancy. I did lots of yoga on my own, but never ventured to an official class. The class was great for me because it made me push myself a little more than I would if I did the poses on my own. I also was able to receive direction on how to correct my poses.
The class started out with the teacher, who is also a doula, discussing a birth she assisted on Mother’s Day. There’s just something about being around a group of women who are experiencing exactly what you’re experiencing. There’s a general understanding that we are on similar paths. I really enjoyed it.
I signed up for a 6 class pass so I will be back. I am really looking forward to reigniting my passion for yoga. It’s been a while since I attended yoga class regularly. I also hope it will jump start my regular workout routine. My prenatal workouts have been pretty sporadic lately. I’m having a natural birth again so I know the importance of exercise to get my body prepared.
