I had my 20 week ultrasound today and learned that instead of 20 weeks, I’m actually 19 weeks. My new due date is October 17 instead of October 14. I just hope the baby doesn’t come of Skye’s birthday October 13.
The ultrasound was a lot of fun! It was the first one in this pregnancy and will be our last. We don’t believe in exposing the baby to unnecessary radiation throughout pregnancy. So we only get the one necessary ultrasound to check anatomy and get a pic of the baby for motivation. ha!
It’s always great to see the baby. When I see his or her little precious image on the screen it feels so amazing. It’s like a reality check that there is in fact a real live baby growing inside me.
This is usually the appointment where you find out the sex of the baby. However, hubby and I have decided to not find out until the baby’s birthday. I’m not pressed for the baby to be either a girl or boy this time. With Skye, I really wanted a girl so we had to find out. This time, I’m a lot more nonchalant about the sex so I thought it would be fun to wait until delivery day. It may give me something to look forward to while I’m laboring and breathing through the contractions. My intuition is saying it’s a boy. But we’ll see.
Our ultrasound doctor was excellent. We went to a birthing center called Nova Birth Center so I think that made all the difference. I love midwife practices over hospital and regular doctor offices. They’re much more women centered. When I walked into the center, There was freshly brewed prenatal ice tea at the receptionist desk. There was also a play run for kids and a store full of natural pregnancy and labor and delivery herbs, books, and a plethora of holistic supplies. It was awesome.
The actual appointment took about 40 minutes. The doctor explained every part of the anatomy on the screen, except for the sex. She asked us which pictures we wanted. She gave us about 10 different picks. I didn’t feel rushed. It was a really nice appointment.
Hubby was super excited. He loved seeing the baby.
He or she is looking right at us! lol! As is they knew we were watching. I love this baby. I’m so excited to see how their presence will transform our family.
Everything turned out to be normal with baby’s anatomy. Of course the baby has a strong heart beat and was very active during the ultrasound appointment. It was a great day for our family.
