Now I’m on to new problems. After Skye weaned, I continued to give her milk because she was still very much attached to her bottle. She had become accustomed to breastfeeding right before bed and the first thing when she woke up in the morning. So we replaced these feedings with the bottle.
I do not drink dairy. Both of my parents and all of my siblings are lactose intolerant so giving Skye dairy milk or formula was never an option. We experimented with all of the alternative milks including, rice, almond, and coconut. I decided not to try soy. Rice seemed to be the best for Skye. Both the coconut and the almond milk caused major congestion.
In addition to the milk, I wanted Skye to get some nutrients in her milk daily. I don’t like any of the conventional formulas on the market. Even the formulas that claim to be “natural” had a lot of questionable ingredients in them. So I searched the web to see what I could find. My schedule is incredibly busy these days so I wanted to find something I didn’t have to make myself. Also, I’m pregnant with baby #2 so pumping really wasn’t an option for me. I’m a vegan and keeping up my iron levels and protein intake is challenging enough when I’m doing one or the other of either being pregnant or breastfeeding. Keeping my vitamin levels optimum while doing both was not something I wanted to take on.
Eventually, I searched Dhealthstore.com to see if they had anything I could supplement in Skye’s milk. I’ve purchased herbs and supplements from this site before, and I know they sell very quality products. I was curious if they had or mentioned any alternative baby formulas on the site.
To my delight, they did! I was so excited. I ordered it right away. It was on sale for only $15 for 12 oz. It’s usually $30 for the same amount.

I just love the ingredients in this stuff. The formula is called Alternative Baby Milk Nutritive. I don’t know if you can see the ingredients listed in the photograph. The ingredients are moringa leaf, canary seed, irish moss, hemp powder, and Iceland moss.
I’m pretty familiar with these herbs and was excited to give them to Skye. Just in case you’ve never heard of them, here’s a rundown of what they’re good for and how they can help with baby’s health and development.
Moringa is a leaf that grows on trees in Asia and Africa. I’ve actually seen a moringa tree and ate leaves right off the tree in Ghana! It was amazing! Moringa is high in protein, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, calcium and minerals. Moringa increases the body’s immune system. It also provides nourishment to the brain and body. Moringa also promotes healthy bowel movements and keeps the digestive system flowing like it should.
This seed is high in omegas, which are great for keeping the baby’s heart healthy, promoting healthy skin, and nourishing their growing brain. It is also an excellent source of protein.
Irish moss is an algae seaweed that grows on the Atlantic coast of North America and North America. I’ve always known that I would feed my child plenty of irish moss, even before I had children. Irish moss is high in calcium. An herbalist and mother told me about the benefits of irish moss a long time ago. She was a vegan and didn’t consume any dairy products. She said irish moss had more digestible calcium anyway and was great for children’s growing bones. Her child was quite the athlete and very strong so he was a shining example of how well this herb works. Irish moss is also high in minerals.
Hemp is another great source of protein, fiber, and omegas. This helps keep my little one’s digestive system in great condition. It’s also a great herb for the brain and skin.
This moss is great for boosting overall health and strengthening the immune system.
I love this stuff. At first, I worried about how I would get Skye to drink her milk with this added to it. But it does not alter the taste of the milk at all, which is a great bonus! She didn’t seem to notice it at all. It also doesn’t clog the bottle nipple either. Overall this stuff works great. Every since we started giving it to her, she’s been sleeping more regularly and her bowels have been even more regular than usual.
Making your own formula is the best option to commercial formulas, but I would say this is the next best thing!
