Positive Affirmations: How to Let Go
Letting go is a challenging process. There are times when we know we should let go and move on, but for some reason we feel stuck and unable to take those first steps.
So we procrastinate and avoid moving. Then we start to rationalize where we are. “It’s not so bad.” “I’m actually happy here.” And we stay put even though our hearts crave change.
Soon, the thought and feelings creep back into our lives and we’re questioning ourselves once more.
This is the process I was going through recently when my family decided to move out of our town house. I knew this was the right decision because the townhouse does not fit into our long-term vision of what we want for our lives. My hubby and I want to travel and have more freedom and at this point in our lives, we feel like a mortgage limits us. So we rented the home out and moved in to a much smaller place with very cheap rent. We’re going to save up, quit our jobs, and travel for a few months at a time. We’re still getting our plan together, but we knew letting go of the townhouse was the first step.
While packing and preparing for the move I started to have second thoughts about letting it go. In my heart, I knew it was the best thing to do, but my mind started questioning me and I began to panic.
However, I know that the first thought is usually the best so I continued on with the plan. One affirmation I used a lot during the packing process was, “I am ready and willing to change.”
This affirmation kept me focused and open to new possibilities. No matter what, I just kept moving in the direction I knew I wanted to go into. Even if it was just a baby step one day and a giant leap the next. As long as I kept walking, I knew we would reach our destination eventually.
Within two weeks, we packed, gave away 80% of our furniture, and moved.
Now, we feel free and excited about the future. We also feel energetic. It’s amazing how much of our energy gets tied down to “old stuff.” Once we let go, we have more energy to do the things that really matter to us.
I’ll keep you posted on our next steps!
I’m ready and willing to change.
