It’s easy to make and also is the kind of thing that you can flavor in a variety of different ways.
I like to dump a bunch of healthy stuff on my popcorn and make it a power snack.
Here’s one of my popcorn recipes.
- 1 cup organic popcorn (definitely get organic because corn is one of the crops that almost always has GMO’s, genetically modified organisms, and you don’t want to eat that!)
- 1-3 oz. coconut oil or olive oil. Make sure the oil is extra virgin and cold pressed. (Whatever your preference. I use both. They’re equally delicious!)
- 1 TB sea salt
- 3 TB nutritional yeast
- 3 TB kelp
Make the popcorn first. I have a popcorn popper so this is really easy for me.
Pour on the oil you have chosen to use. If the coconut oil is solid, place the jar in a bowl of hot water. It should take less than 5 minutes to liquify. When I’m in a hurry, I just use a spoon to scoop out the coconut oil and sir it in popcorn. It doesn’t disperse it as well as the liquid, but it’s good enough when I don’t feel like waiting.
Next sprinkle on sea salt, nutritional yeast, and kelp.
Taste. Adjust according to your taste. It’s ok to add more oil or seasoning. The oil adds a buttery flavor. The nutritional yeast adds a cheesy flavor and the kelp adds a salty flavor.
Now you have a power popcorn.
Nutritional Yeast is high in B-vitamins, folic acid, selenium, zinc, and protein. It’s great for vegetarians and vegans. Kelp is a seaweed high in iodine, calcium, and potassium.
