During my pregnancy, it was my goal to have a natural home birth. Things didn’t quite work out that way. I labored mostly at home, but was transferred to the hospital after laboring for several hours and not progressing.
At the hospital, they recommended pitocin. I was disappointed because I wanted a completely natural birth, but I reluctantly agreed. However, I was determined to not get the epidural. I know that the most medications and interventions one has, the more likely they are to end up needing a c-section. It was my goal to avoid the c-section.
In this video I describe how painful and unnatural contractions are on pitocin. In the future, I will avoid piton at all cost! I did get some pain medication while I was on the pitocin but it only lasted about an hour. In the end, I believe it was my mother’s presence at the hospital that eventually led to the birthing of my baby rather than the pitocin.
As soon as she arrived, it was as if my body was just open and ready to deliver.
