Quinoa is a great replacement for low nutrition carbs like rice and potatoes.
Quinoa is the only grain (although it’s not really a grain but more like a seed) that’s considered 100 % protein. It’s also wheat and gluten free which is awesome if you have food allergies. In addition to being a protein powerhouse, it also is high in fiber, magnesium, iron, calcium and essential fatty acids. This is definitely a mandatory food for vegans and vegetarians!
One-fourth cup of Quinoa contains 222 calories, but these are nutritious calories rather than empty calories. So this is also a great food for pregnant and nursing moms.
It is definitely a superfood. It helps you remain full longer, but is really easy for your body to digest.
I usually serve quinoa with vegetables and salmon.
You can treat it just like rice. So season it similar to rice and pair it with similar meals.
The taste is in between rice and couscous — a light grain taste.
Give it a try!!
