Breastfeeding: How to Treat Sore Nipples
Sore Nipples! One of the side effects of breast feeding. this video has some great tips for relieving the soreness.
Personally, this was the hardest part of breast feeding. The soreness didn’t last long, but for the first couple of days, I was very sore. I fed Skye anyway, but I really had to concentrate, take some deep breaths, and bare the discomfort. In the first few days, my little one, as most babies, wanted to eat all of the time. So every hour or so I had to endure the pain.
I was blessed to have my mom with me the first week. When she saw me struggling with breastfeeding, she cheered me on every time. Reminding me how important it was to nourish my newborn baby in this way. She affirmed that I was doing a great job and things would get easier, but I had to stick with it because there was no other option for my baby. She would say, “This is how a mother loves.” I didn’t quite get this comment at the time, but now I see that there are many times we have to do things that are uncomfortable, hard, and beautiful for our little ones. We have to step out of our limitations and step up for our children. This was just a preview of that new reality of motherhood.
I hope to encourage you the way my mom encouraged me. Stick with it! Don’t give up! This is the best way to nourish your baby emotionally and physically. You are doing a great job, and things will get easier.
Breast milk is your baby’s perfect food. It is far superior to any other product.
The benefits of breastfeeding far outweigh the challenges.
