We all know the story of Peter Pan, it’s a romantic tale of a boy and girl who experience the joy of discovering love. The story is in some ways tragic because the love the two share can not be completely fulfilled because the boy refuses to become a MAN.
So first you have to learn how to recognize Peter Pan!
always hangs with the lost boys,
flies from house to house chasing his shadow,
loves to play,
loves to fight,
has a wild imagination,
always has to carry his weapon,
is always followed by a girl he sees as small who loves him but he will never love her the same way,
does things his way,
feels the whole world is his,
hates talking about feelings,
and will never never never never grow up!
his love is deep
he will fight to keep who he loves
he takes care of those he loves the most
he can teach you how to fly
he can show you a world you never knew existed
The biggest problem with dating Peter Pan is that he refuses to grow up, and you have to grow up at some point. Growing up means taking on responsibility and learning to do things that you never had to do before, like have grown up conversations or moving out of Neverland (never leaving my parents, never getting married, never falling in love, never trust a women, never never never…)
When men get into their first serious relationship they often have this internal conflict that often mirrors that of Captain Hook and Peter Pan. The Captain Hook is the ultimate man, still hanging with his boys, but doing more adult things. Whereas the Peter side wants to fall in love but have nothing to do with any of the adult things that comes with it.
The women often play the Wendy role for the two combatants. Wendy is there mother figure, she helps them find peace, heals their hurts, and nurtures their spirit.
Thing is about Wendy she knows “I’m growing up” and she’s going back to the real world.
A man that plays the part of Peter Pan never grows up. He doesn’t understand how or when to change into an adult. His conversations will be child-like and confusing, unless you’re twelve. He will not see reason in expressing his feelings without fighting or how to compromise to make a relationship work.
Anything worth having is a balance of life, a good guy would be the balance of Peter and Captain Hook. A man that can teach you to fly but live in the world of adults.
The only way to stop dating Peter Pan is to declare your wish to grow up and live in the real world. Then to leave and live in that world whether Peter comes or not.
