Whether to eat organic is a question on everyone’s mind these days. Every time another news story comes out about the harmful effects of gmo’s and pesticides, we reach for the more expensive, organic versions of our favorite fruit and veggies.
But it can be pricey to eat organic all of the time. Wouldn’t be nice to know which fruits and veggies we should absolutely choose organic for and which ones aren’t such a big deal?
A couple of days ago, Mommypamus posted an excellent cheat sheet to organic foods on her facebook page. This list is basedon the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Guide to Pesticides in Produce. You can get their guide here.
In the chart below, the Clean 15 are the top 15 fruits and vegetables the EWG states are the least likely to test positive for pesticide residues. The Dirty Dozen + are the most contaminated conventional fruits and vegetables. If you buy organic whenever buying any produce from the Dirty Dozen + list, you’ll avoid a lot of harmful pesticides and move toward a healthier diet.
I have this list saved to my phone so that it’s easy to pull out when I need it. Click here to download a PDF version you can save on your phone.
