Juices saved my life during my pregnancy. I have a very healthy diet most of the time. But when I became pregnant, it was hard to keep up with the nutritional demands of pregnancy. I needed to get more iron, more folic acid, and more calcium in every day. However, I was nauseous a lot of the day during my first trimester, and didn’t have much of an appetite. Juicing provided me with a way to get more nutrients in without forcing myself to shove food down my throat.
Just to be clear, juicing shouldn’t replace food during pregnancy. Getting enough fiber and calories is still important, but it can really increase your nutritional intake, and provide much need nutrients to you and your growing baby.
Here’s a juicing recipe I loved during my pregnancy. It helped with morning sickness and gave me an energy boost. This really helped me get some things done during the day.
- 2 stalks of celery
- handful of spinach
- 2 leaves of kale
- 1 cup of pineapple
- 1/2 inch of ginger
- juice of one lemon
Juice all of the ingredients except the lemon. Once the other fruit and veggies are juiced, squeeze the lemon juice into the cup. Stir. Enjoy. If you’re not just to drinking fresh juice, you may want to dilute the juice slightly with water. Just add 2 TB of water or to taste.
This juice was so amazing during my pregnancy. It made me feel energetic and powerful. lol!
