As I plan another natural childbirth, I find myself reflecting on why I’m having a natural childbirth anyway.
During my first pregnancy, a lot of people asked my why and some even tried to talk me out of it.
I created the video below to share my thoughts on the topic.
My main reasons for having a natural birth and not getting an epidural include:
1. Epidurals and pain medications numb your pain and your intuition. Birth and delivery are so important to our development as mothers. They awaken our intuition or “super powers” as my hubby would say. I want clear access to my intuition so I can know what to do while in labor and not have to rely on the nurses and doctors to instruct me. I believe the mom’s intuition is the best indicator of what’s happening with mommy and baby during labor.
2. Epidurals can often lead to more complications during labor and possibly even a c-section. I have absolutely no interest in getting a c-section. I want to birth my baby vaginally. It results in quicker recovery, less chance of postpartum depression, and it’s healthier for the baby to travel down the birth canal.
