Just to catch you up!
We moved out if our home and rented it out. We gave away all of our stuff. We drove cross country. We tried to get an RV to travel the country in for a year. But it didnt work out the way we wanted.
Now, we’re headed to Costa Rica for some much needed rejuvenation. To clear our heads. To think about our next steps.
We don’t know exactly what we want. But we do know we have an unsatiable thirst to travel the world. See new things. Learn new cultures.
And we know we don’t want the middle class life that so many of our friends are aspiring to.
As I was looking for a place to rent while we’re there, I saw a lot if monthly rentals for $300-700. Really?? I thought. We could live in Costa Rica for way less than we’d pay for rent here. Not to mention the American dollar stretches far in Costa Rica!
So that’s when my wheels started turning. The RV was a great idea but he maintenance and gas prices were less than thrilling. To drive from Atlanta to California would cost $1000 in gas alone. That’s before you add in rv park hook up costs, food, etc. it’s not very cost friend and owning a big ole vehicle like that doesn’t give us the freedom we’re looking for.
But Costa Rica… Or any country popular among American expats, with beautiful beaches, great food, and friendly culture where the America dollar stretches and everyday can feel like paradise, could be a nice place to chill out for a few months or at least 90 days when my visa expires.
I’m not ready to move to costa rica quite yet. We’re just going for 3 weeks this time. which is the longest I’ve ever been in another country. It’s nice to not be limited by allotted vacation time. Amazing thinking about how for many years someone told me how I could spend my own time. The things we accept when we don’t know any better.
I love the freedom of exploring the possibilities.Thinking outside the box. Letting my heart guide my next decision.
Right now we’re free. Freer than I’ve been in my life. I have no mortgage and no fear! What a great combination. I’m finally ready to follow my heart, live my life on purpose, travel the world and have faith that my current deepest desires will lead me to the life of my dreams.
I let my head lead for 10 years. And it led me to a life I dreaded waking up to. I had all the fixings: a house, a retirement account, a corporate career, but I lacked the substance, the umph, the joy that makes life worth it.
So it took me a while to do this. Leave the country again after going to Ghana in 07. I’ve drooled over trips. I’ve even come close to buying plane tickets. All I had to do was click buy at the bottom of the page but I choked, I got scared and I let reason talk me out of my desires.
Do u ever do that. Do u ever tell yourself that your dreams are silly and in reality you should do the very thing that bores you out of your life??
Well let me tell you something.
Your dreams are the only real thing you have. And if you neglect them. If you criticize yourself. Than life will suck. And you’ll often wonder why you’re even here in the first place.
Live your dreams. And when you accomplish them, choose bigger and better dreams to chase. That’s life!
I’ll keep you posted on our trip.
